I’m really enjoying this series, but four of the books (#3, 4, 6 and 7) have the main character keeping a secret for most of the book as the main plot. I did not care for those. This book again uses secrets as the main plot: Presley has a baby and does not tell the father. Chey starts a lie and keeps a secret from her loving husband. It’s mostly angst about telling lies and keeping secrets. Nothing else was going on that surprised or delighted me. There is a happy romantic ending for Presley but it was weak.
DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Swearing language: strong, but rarely used. Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: about 2 plus another 3 referred to with no details. Setting: current day mostly small town Whiskey Creek, California. Copyright: 2014. Genre: contemporary romance.

THE SERIES:
This is book #6 in the Whiskey Creek series. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but there is a flow of characters through the books which makes it nice if read in order. Here are my ratings for them.
My Favorites (4 ½ or more stars):
#0.5 When We Touch - 102 page novella
#1 When Lightning Strikes
#5 Take Me Home For Christmas
#8 This Heart of Mine
2nd choice (3 ½ stars):
#9 A Winter Wedding
#2 When Snow Falls - It was hard to feel hope or anticipation. Chey would not allow herself to act on her feelings. She kept her feelings “secret” for most of the book.
3rd choice:
The main plot was one character keeping a “secret” for most of the book. I did not enjoy the lies. In some stories I did not like the reasons for keeping the secret.
2 ½ stars. #3 When Summer Comes
2 stars. #4 Home to Whiskey Creek
2 ½ stars. #6 Come Home to Me - secret baby
3 stars. #7 The Heart of Christmas - Hero is on the run from bad guys. When heroine asked questions he could have answered in generic terms but he was silent. That didn’t feel right to me.

Come Home to Me Whiskey Creek Brenda Novak 9780778315919 Books Reviews
I'm relatively new to the Whiskey Creek Series. I liked this book as a stand-a-lone, and I imagine readers of the entire series would have a more developed sense of the characters and their backgrounds.
I was drawn into Come Home to Me right from the start. I enjoyed getting to know Presley and Aaron. I understood Presley's reluctance to spend time with Aaron, her Kryptonite, because she had turned her life around and didn't want to 'fall into' old habits, like falling into his bed. I also understood her intention to protect the life she built with Wyatt and avoid any battles with Aaron. Having said that, I do not agree with her keeping the fact of Wyatt's paternity from Aaron upon her return to Whiskey Creek. It wasn't an issue only until Aaron relocated, rather it would be a constant issue throughout Wyatt's life. The deception added to the plot by keeping readers wondering when the s*** was going to hit the fan, because inevitably it always does. I kept wondering whether Aaron and Presley would ever recognize their emotions/love for the other, whether Presley could elevate her self-confidence when it came to Aaron, & whether Aaron would be able to recognize his feelings as more than jealousy and lust and make a commitment to Presley (& Wyatt).
I loved Aaron's persistence in trying to get Presley to realize that she wasn't the only person who had changed & grown since they parted. I really enjoyed all things related to Presley and Aaron and was glad that they were unable to deny their love for one another by the end of the book.
The problem I had with the book is the storyline with Cheyenne seeking to deceive Dylan in the worst manner possible. I prayed that Aaron would not agree to her plan. I expected Aaron to back out once he knew Wyatt was his son and had run through the rollercoaster of emotions from having been lied to about his being Wyatt's father. I really loved the rest of the book, but for this sub-plot which made me very uncomfortable, I had to drop the rating for this book to 4 stars.
Brenda Novak is a brilliant story teller and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. (I can't wait to see how she is going to keep Dylan from being irrevocably hurt by Cheyenne's actions.)
(I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.)
If you have never read a Whiskey Creek book and this was your first, do not be put off reading some of the earlier books which are so far above this one in plot, romance, characters - basically everything - they shouldn't be missed. But this one, yikes, it just wasn't good. I read all the way to the end hoping against all hope that they wouldn't go through with the sickening sub plot, at least without telling Dylan about it, but they did, and all I have to say is that it did not inspire me to ever want to read another novel by this author. The subplot is the kind of thing you see on Maury and say to yourself, what were these people thinking when they thought "this" (being vague so as not to include spoiler), was OK?
The main character Presley was good, but everything about her back story was totally vague - how did she get through rehab, her pregnancy, etc, by herself - who were her friends back where she moved from - no idea as no one was mentioned. Everyone has someone in their lives when they have moved away for 2 years. Aaron's recovery was vague too, and he was a little wishy washy for a hero too.
Then they made Riley into a bit of a d*ck, so if there's a future book about him I'm not going to want to read it now they did that.
So, we have a back story that wasn't even there, a sub plot that was HORRIBLE (!!!!!) and a romance that was lack lustre, I'm just glad someone gave me an gift card so that I didn't really spend my own money on this.
Previous books in the series have centered on a group of characters who were friends and those books have all been either excellent or very good - this one stepped outside that circle and fell flat.
